[Ultra-Intense Seminar] Overview and Progress in Laser Ion Acceleration

durch Jörg Schreiber (LMU Munich)

Europe/Berlin
Beschreibung

I will present principle thoughts on optimisation strategies for laser-driven ion acceleration based on my relativistic model for maxinum ion energies. More relevant for applications is the number of ions per bunch at a certain energy, for which currently no conclusive model exists, and I will explain why that is. I will mention examples that represent the vivid evolution of applications of laser particle acceleration. The exciting ALPA future depends crucially on technical developments in the fields targetry, beam lines and instrumentation that must be tailored to the specific needs dictated by the bunch properties, in particular its small longitudinal and transverse emittance. After around 10 years of work, we are now privileged to contribute to these community efforts at the Centre for Advanced Laser Applications in Garching, and I am happy to share first experiences.
