The Gemini facility at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK has been one of the major centres of Laser-driven wakefield acceleration for the past decade where several important works in the field have been performed. In particular, Gemini helped demonstrate the niche capabilities of laser-driven photon and particle beams in both fundamental science as well as applications, enabled by its unique two-beam capability. The proof-of-principle industrial and biomedical applications demonstrated in Gemini will be exploited by the new facility under construction – the Extreme Photonics Application Centre (EPAC), which will drive plasma accelerators at 10Hz and possibly beyond. In this talk I will go through some of the recent highlights from Gemini as well as the design philosophy of EPAC.
