We present an overview of the ebeam4therapy project at the Weizmann Institute of Science aimed at developing the technology for very-high-energy electron (VHEE) radiotherapy based on a laser-plasma accelerator and focus on the optimization of simulations for the project. A core objective of the project is to reduce the cost of potential medical devices by reducing the required laser energy. By utilizing the genetic algorithm in conjunction with particle-in-cell simulations of the laser-plasma interaction with the FBPIC code, we investigate methods to achieve a VHEE beam suitable for radiotherapy at the lowest possible laser pulse energy. The optimization process is performed with respect to the gas target parameters such as the gas density profile and the gas mixture.
The work is supported by the European Innovation Council (ebeam4therapy grant) and the Schwartz Reisman Center for Intense Laser Physics.
