THRILL Workshop

The THRILL Adaptive Optics (AO) Integration Workshop aligns closely with the focus of this year’s LPA Special Workshop on "Intelligent Systems." Both workshops address key areas of system integration, automation, and optimization, which are critical for advancing laser facility technology. By bringing together the LPA and laser communities and experts in adaptive optics, the collaboration will foster cross-disciplinary learning and significantly benefit advancements towards future beam control systems, as envisioned by the THRILL program.

About THRILL (Logo: https://www.thrill-project.eu/resources/)

THRILL stands for “Technology for High-Repetition Rate Intense Laser Laboratories.” It is an EU-funded project involving nine partners across five countries over four years, with a budget of €10.4 million. THRILL aims to advance the technology of high-energy lasers towards higher repetition rates. The project works to overcome technical bottlenecks, develop enabling technologies, and produce prototypes for sustainable and reliable operation of high-energy laser beamlines. More information can be found on the THRILL website.

Work Package 5 focuses on beam transport and beam quality, with an emphasis on increasing energy throughput and developing beam stabilization concepts. Task 5.3, led by GSI, aims to integrate adaptive optics into laser control systems. The main goal is to build a foundation for an open-source software framework for AO integration, addressing current gaps and boosting the performance of laser systems.

The Workshop

The THRILL workshop will give you the opportunity to share your research on AO integration, automation, and beam control as a talk in a dedicated session, contributing to the development of future adaptive optics technologies and shaping the direction of high-energy laser facility advancements. This will lay down the basis for a moderated discussion session, allowing participants to share their insights and express their needs regarding the future development of an AO integration software framework.

We invite all interested participants to contribute to the THRILL Adaptive Optics Integration Workshop by submitting an abstract. To submit, please click on “Abstract Submission” and select “THRILL-Workshop: Talk” under Abstract type. Participants are welcome to submit abstracts to both the THRILL workshop and the full LPA workshop without restriction if they wish to contribute to both workshops.

The abstract submission deadline will be announced soon. Your contribution will help shape the future of adaptive optics integration in high-energy laser facilities.
